Common Core State Standards cite "Bringing Words to Life" in Appendix A of the standards for English Language Arts. This book helped codify research that has come to be known as robust vocabulary. While the pedagogy cited has been around literally for generations, the CCSS inclusion of this technique and the emphasis that it places on vocabulary acquisition across the curriculum is new. However, as we have seen for generations, educational movements tend to bog down in the course of time and along the movement's march through a complex nation of more than 100,000 school systems. American Learning League, based on our motivational community focused on the Connecticut Mastery Test, now operated by our nonprofit organization Big Fun Education, will help America get the most benefit from the focus on vocabulary acquisition by providing a go-to online location where students can engage in robust vocabulary practice while genuinely having fun.
